In most of the US, flat fee MLS listings are pretty standardized. In NYC where I live, your main concern should be that you are getting in the RLS (REBNY Listing Service).
I would be wary of "national" for sale by owner websites promising to list you in your local MLS. There is no major / dominant MLS in New York City. Don't pay $1000 for nothing (to be listed in the NY State MLS or something else totally irrelevant??).
Make sure you're getting a flat fee RLS listing. Be very careful and do your diligence just what broker database they are promising to get you into!
